Condo association joins NCC ranks

After Northland Community Council secretary Roseann Hicks completed the monthly roll call of
member organizations present or absent for last week's special picnic meeting, president Dave Paul
opened a brief business session with some welcome news.
"Tonight, we're going to need to add another line to that," he said of the list of associations
belonging to the umbrella council.
Seeking strength in numbers for help in dealing with some issues of crime and students
trespassing on their property, the members of the Sprucefield Condominium Association successfully
petitioned for membership into the NCC.
The 46-unit development is located on the west side of Maple Canyon Drive, just north of East
Dublin-Granville Road.
The condo residents join the Blendon Meadows Civic Association in swelling the Northland
Community Council's ranks this year, reversing a trend that appeared to have been established in
2010.
In December, one of the council's longest-tenured members, the 48-year-old Devonshire Civic
Association, dropped out of the fold when it went out of existence, with president Chuck Parker
citing a lack of participation among subdivision residents.
That followed on the heels of a unanimous vote during the NCC's October session to expel the
Little Turtle Civic Association after a representative failed to attend a meeting for 16 straight
months.
The NCC's officers reviewed the bylaws of the Sprucefield Condominium Association to ensure they
didn't violate any of the council's own bylaws, and recommended approving the request for
membership, Paul said last week.
The association was represented at the meeting by Carol Gangloff, secretary of the board of
directors.
"We're really looking forward to joining the council," she told those gathered for the picnic at
Blendon Woods Metro Park.
Most of the 46 units in the condominium are owner-occupied she added.
"We're surrounded by everyone else who's in it, practically," Gangloff said during a telephone
interview the following day.
Gangloff also serves as her organization's Block Watch coordinator, and she admitted that
residents have been dealing with several "community problems," notably students from nearby
Beechcroft High School cutting through the condominium's property.
After bringing the issues to the attention of officer Scott Clinger, the community liaison for
one of the Columbus Police Department precincts that covers the Northland area, Gangloff said he
recommended seeking membership in the community council as a means of gaining additional clout in
having these issues addressed.
"We're really happy to have you come join us," Paul told Gangloff.
A motion was made and seconded to accept the application for membership, and the subsequent
voice vote was unanimous.
"Welcome to our neighbors of Sprucefield Condominium Association," Paul said.
